[TheUbuCon] A technical question (or a statement)

Hello, here's a question I wanted to ask of Someone of Knowledge at the
ubucon, but I had to leave early before I could ask.

I've got a box, an Aptiva 3.2 GHz with 2GB RAM, that works great with 6.10.
With 6.10.

With both 6.06 and 5.10, I tried HDD installs and live CD's of practically
all the flavors of ubuntu. Under these OS versions, the computer would
LOCK UP every time I'd leave it alone for twenty minutes. Shaking the mouse
could make the screen turn back on, but anything I'd try, the box behaved as
if it were a 3.2 MHz machine. "top" didn't give any useful info, in that
subset of cases where I was able to get up a shell.

I even got the effect to occur with alternating live CD's of 6.10 vs. 6.06,
so it wasn't a broken box, per se, that caused the problem.

QUESTIONS:
1) Do the Masters of the Ubuntu Universe already know they fixed something?

If so, I am so happy and case closed. You can delete this note.

2) If not, what are the chances I'm insane? Or that the Ubuntu team
arbitrarily changed something that accidentally fixed my box this one time,
but they're just as likely to change it back in 7.04? If that's so, is it
silly to file a bug report on 6.06?

"It's not a bug if you're the only one experiencing the problem," said the
developer of a now-defunct distro to the first person to find the bug.
