Sorry I wasn't there!
Just some thoughts in my head.
1. A lot of people who show up to SVLUG and SVLUG Installfest would be the
same people showing up to an Ubuntu group. It might be good to see what
develops at the SVLUG groups first. 3 Linux meetings a month might be too
much for some people. Perhaps we should put on some sort of presentation at
an SVLUG meeting (the main one). Also, to put it blunt, people talk a lot
about Ubuntu at the SVLUG InstallFest but long-term planning and projects
wasn't that hot yet. There needs to be a critical mass for big projects to
take off. See my 3rd idea below regarding this.
2. I personally would like to focus on propaganda, presentation, and
start-to-finish demonstrations of Ubuntu. And from Paul's suggestions,
HOWTOs and a recording of common issues people have in the Bay Area. Perhaps
filter up bugs and suggests to the Ubuntu guys from what we see in the
field. I am also interested in putting on non-profit demonstrations at
companies to get them to switch to Ubuntu.
3. 2 Linux groups at google may be a bit much at Google per month. Perhaps a
dedicated Ubuntu Group every other month would be a good idea, and if
attendance is really good, make it every month. Big projects can take time
for people who have jobs and kids and such, so meeting every other month to
accomplish goals might be good so people can breathe. If things heat up,
though, it makes sense to do it once a month.
Just thoughts.
Mark
